Plain-English summary
T-Fal Corp. is voluntarily recalling approximately 29,000 deep fryers with fixed pots in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The affected units include the Superclean Midi (model 3350) and Superclean Maxi (models 3358 and 3360) deep fryers. These specific models were manufactured during particular weeks in 1996 and feature a molded white plastic exterior with a hinged lid.
The recall is necessary because the heating elements in some of these fryers can overheat, which presents a risk of burn injuries. T-Fal has received 25 reports of overheating heating elements that caused the units' bases to begin melting. While some counter tops have been damaged, the company is not aware of any injuries or fires involving these deep fryers.
Consumers should immediately stop using the affected deep fryers and call T-Fal toll-free at (800) 395-8325. T-Fal will inspect the fryers and provide a free replacement to consumers who own units with problem heating elements. The model number and manufacturing date are printed on a silver label on the base of the unit, with the model number following the word "CODE" and the date located above "MADE IN MEXICO."
