Paik International, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is recalling approximately 500,000 disposable butane cigarette lighters. The non-refillable lighters have red, yellow, green, blue, or purple plastic bodies and feature a paper label reading "CAUTION...MADE IN CHINA."

These lighters were sold at convenience and retail stores in New York from June 1995 to April 1996 for less than $1 each. CPSC and Paik International are not aware of any injuries involving these specific lighters, but the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. CPSC's standard for child-resistant lighters is intended to reduce deaths, injuries, and residential fires caused annually by children under the age of five playing with lighters.
