Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Plain-English summary
Paik International, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is recalling approximately 500,000 disposable butane cigarette lighters. The recalled lighters do not comply with CPSC safety standards because they lack safety devices that prevent young children from igniting them. The non-refillable lighters have red, yellow, green, blue, or purple plastic bodies and feature a paper label reading "CAUTION...MADE IN CHINA."
These lighters were sold at convenience and retail stores in New York from June 1995 to April 1996 for less than $1 each. CPSC and Paik International are not aware of any injuries involving these specific lighters, but the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. CPSC's standard for child-resistant lighters is intended to reduce deaths, injuries, and residential fires caused annually by children under the age of five playing with lighters.
Consumers should stop using the cigarette lighters immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call Paik International at (212) 545-1667.
