CPSC Recalls 845,000 Cigarette Lighters Lacking Child-Resistant Mechanisms

Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and five importers are recalling about 845,000 novelty and disposable cigarette lighters. The recalled products either do not have child-resistant mechanisms to prevent young children from igniting the lighters or have defective child-resistant mechanisms, which violates the Consumer Product Safety Act.
The recall includes disposable lighters from DB Marketing Group Inc. and Tabco International Inc., as well as refillable novelty lighters from Kassir Co., Hangmei International Corp., and Chicago Import Co. These lighters were sold in various retail locations, including small retail stores, discount stores, gas stations, flea markets, and restaurants, across multiple states and nationwide between 1994 and 1997. CPSC is not aware of any injuries or incidents involving these lighters, and the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.
