The ladders were sold under the brand names "Keller" and "Columbia" between 1990 and 1995. The specific models affected include Keller 5016, 5028, 5128, 5132, 5136, and 5140, as well as Columbia EF4128, EF1028, EF1032, EF1036, and EF1040.
The recall was issued because a support brace located on the ladder's base section could interfere with the operation of the rung locks. If the brace interferes with the locks, the ladder may appear to be securely locked in place when it is not. This defect could cause the ladder to collapse, resulting in a person standing on the ladder falling and being seriously injured.
Consumers should stop using the affected ladders immediately. To obtain a remedy, consumers should contact William Demeritt at Jacuzzi Brands Corp. in Chino Hills, California, at (909) 247-2033. The company will provide a rung lock replacement for retrofit or, if the retrofit is not available, a replacement ladder or a refund of the purchase price.
