CPSC Recalls Wooden Bunk Beds With Entrapment Hazards

While CPSC and the manufacturers are not aware of any deaths associated with these specific products, CPSC received reports of 26 children dying from becoming caught in bunk beds with similar spaces between 1990 and 1995.

Consumers should stop using the recalled beds immediately. They should contact the manufacturer or retailer for a replacement guardrail, retrofit kit, or instructions to eliminate the hazard. If a remedy is not available, consumers should destroy or discard the product. Parents and caregivers are urged to prohibit children under the age of six from using the upper bunk.
