Gerber Infant and Toddler Sandals Recalled for Choking Hazard
Angel-etts of California is recalling 170,000 pairs of Gerber-licensed infant and toddler sandals because buckles may separate, posing a choking risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a choking hazard for infants and toddlers where the hazard has been observed (buckles in mouths) but no injuries have been reported, fitting the criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Angel-etts of California Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 170,000 pairs of infant and toddler sandals licensed under the Gerber name. The recall involves five specific styles: infant sandals Model Nos. 55101 (white) and 55103 (brown), and toddler sandals Model Nos. 59006 (white), 59401 (brown), and 59682 (blue denim). The word "Gerber" appears on the insole of all styles, and model numbers are printed on the inside of the straps.
The sandals are being recalled because the buckles may separate from the straps, presenting a potential choking or ingestion risk. Angel-etts has received reports that buckles on some shoes have separated, and in some instances, the separated buckle was found in a child's mouth. No injuries have been reported.
These sandals were sold nationwide in 1995 exclusively in the footwear departments of Kmart Stores. Infant sandals were sold for $4.99 in clear plastic packages, while toddler sandals were sold for $8.99 in boxes. Consumers should stop using these sandals immediately and return them to any Kmart store for a full refund. For more information, consumers may call Angel-etts toll-free at 1-(800)-284-6497.
