Plain-English summary
Sanitoy Inc. of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, is voluntarily recalling 21,200 Rolling Ball Rattle Teethers, Model No. 520-Z and Model No. 520-E, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recalled items are flower-shaped rattles with blue turning petals, a rotating pink center, and a yellow base and handle. A turquoise rubber teething ring at the base of the handle is flexible enough to allow the rattle handle to fit down a child's throat, presenting a choking hazard for young children.
The rattles are 6.5 inches long and were sold in cardboard blister packages labeled "NURSERY NEEDS Rolling Ball Rattle-Teether." Sanitoy distributed the product nationally from April 1994 through December 1994. The items were sold for $1.99 at retailers including Baby's Mart, Caldors, Bradlees, Target, Pilgrim, Maxi Drug, Westside Pharmacy, and Tots Wear Company stores. The products were made in China.
Although no complaints or injuries have been reported to Sanitoy or CPSC, the company is taking this action as a preventive measure after the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection reported the potential hazard. Consumers should take the rattle away from children immediately and return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
