Approximately 1,200 units were imported from Mexico and sold between January and December 1994 for $9.99 each.

The recall was initiated after the Washington State Department of Health reported that a vial broke in a public school, requiring student evacuation. While the mercury vials pose no immediate health threat, exposure to the vapor released if the glass breaks can cause long-term health problems, particularly for small children and pregnant women.

Consumers who purchased these necklaces should return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
