The recalled products include item #8003 (three-piece set) and item #8006 (six-piece set), which feature plastic rattles shaped like a telephone, bird, and trumpet, along with additional toys in the six-piece version. Both sets were packaged in cardboard boxes with oval cellophane windows and labeled "HELLO BABY AND BABY RATTLE...MADE IN CHINA."

During CPSC testing, the rattles were found to separate into small balls and plastic fragments when dropped. This defect presents a choking hazard to babies and young children. Jade Express distributed these sets to chain, discount, and toy stores in Southern California, Texas, Iowa, Illinois, and Florida between October 1993 and August 1994. The three-piece sets sold for about $5, and the six-piece sets sold for about $10.

Neither CPSC nor Jade Express Inc. are aware of any injuries involving these products. The recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. Consumers are urged to take the rattles away from babies and young children immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund.
