The dolls feature a red and white scarf and a red Santa hat. The pom-pom poses a choking hazard if it detaches from the hat.

The safety warning was issued after the company received seven reports of the pom-pom coming off the hat. In one instance, a child required medical attention for choking on the pom-pom, though the child fully recovered. Approximately 594,000 videotapes and BARNEY dolls were sold nationwide during the previous holiday season as the Barney Holiday Gift Pack.

Consumers should immediately snip off the pom-pom from the doll. The Lyons Group is asking consumers to attach the removed pom-pom to a 3-inch by 5-inch card with their name and address and send it to P.O. Box 9523, Allen, TX 75002. Cards received by December 15, 1994, were entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a 4-foot BARNEY or 4-foot Baby Bop doll. Retailers were also notified to remove pom-poms from dolls in stock before selling them.
