Gracious Living Industries Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 95,300 white, molded plastic "Maui Plastic Patio Chairs" model 1025. The recall was initiated because the chair's rear legs may spread beyond their normal range and break when a person sits in the chair on a polished or smooth surface, such as a deck, patio, or retail store floor. This structural failure can cause the chair to collapse.

The company is aware of at least 11 chair collapses that resulted in 11 known injuries to backs, shoulders, heads, and elbows. As a result of these accidents, Gracious Living discontinued the sale of this chair in June 1992. The chairs were sold in the United States from February 18, 1992, to June 15, 1992, through two retailers: F.W. Woolworth and Jamesway.

Consumers who own this chair should stop using it immediately. They should contact Gracious Living's parts department at 1-800-465-5660 to arrange for the chair to be picked up free of charge. Gracious Living will also reimburse consumers for the purchase price.
