Plain-English summary

Kmart Corporation is voluntarily recalling white, plastic resin patio chairs manufactured by Suncraft in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The chairs have the potential to collapse when used aggressively or by a person weighing more than 200 pounds. Kmart reported the issue to CPSC after receiving consumer complaints and is aware of at least 43 incidents of chair failure.

The recalled chairs are white, molded plastic resin patio chairs with the word "Suncraft" stamped on the underside of the seat. They were manufactured by Taiwan Lounge Chair Industry Co., Ltd. Kmart imported approximately 101,300 chairs from Taiwan and sold approximately 78,000 of them as part of a nine-piece "Moroccan Sand" patio set. The chairs were sold at Kmart retail stores from December 1990 through the summer of 1991.

Reported injuries from the chair failures include bruises to the back, leg, arm, and head. Consumers who have the recalled chairs should return them to any Kmart store to receive replacement model chairs.
