Rosalco, Inc. is recalling approximately 175,000 high gloss, tubular metal frame children's bunk beds. The affected models include 3006, 3007, 3026, 3027, 3206, 3207, 3226, and 3227, which were sold in red, blue, white, or black from January 1990 to the present. These beds feature rectangular mattress support side rails measuring 1 inch by 2 inches. Slightly different versions with side rails measuring 1 1/2 inches by 3/4 inches are not subject to this recall.

The hazard exists because the upper level of the bunk bed can fall unexpectedly, causing the bed to collapse. Rosalco has received about 150 reports of these beds breaking, including 10 reports of alleged injury when the beds failed. The company, an Indiana importer, sold the beds for approximately $150 to $300 each in retail stores nationwide.

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected beds as bunk beds. Because Rosalco is out of business, consumers should discard or destroy the products. To determine if a bed is affected, consumers should contact the retailer to identify the importer or manufacturer. The CPSC also urges consumers to inspect all metal bunk beds for breaks or cracks in the paint and metal around the welds and to report incidents to the CPSC hotline.
