Plain-English summary
Consolidated Stores Corporation is voluntarily recalling 37,656 manual French fry cutters, item number 11010403. The product was sold in 450 Odd Lots/Big Lots stores and All For One stores located east of the Mississippi River and in Missouri between March and April 1992. The cutters were manufactured in Taiwan and distributed by Midwestern Home Products, Inc.
The recall is due to a laceration hazard. The device contains eight razor-sharp cutting blades that are not securely attached to the bottom of the plastic frame. If the device is used upside down, the blades can be driven out of the frame and into the user's hands. The cutter is not marked to indicate which side is up. CPSC has received reports of five injuries associated with the product, all involving hand lacerations, with one injury reportedly requiring 11 stitches.
Consumers should stop using the French fry cutters immediately. Those who purchased the item from Odd Lots/Big Lots or All For One stores should return it for a refund. Consumers may also contact Consolidated Stores Corporation toll-free at 1-800-877-1253, extension 6767, for assistance.
