Plain-English summary
Siemens Energy & Automation, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is voluntarily offering free inspection and correction for certain I-T-E brand circuit-breaker boxes, also known as load centers. These units were installed between September 1986 and May 1987. The recall was initiated after Siemens discovered that some of these boxes were manufactured using components made of an incorrect material, which could lead to overheating and malfunction.
Consumers can identify affected units by checking the five-digit date code marked on the top of the wiring diagram label inside the door used to reset the circuit breakers. The specific date codes involved are H2586-H3186, J0186-J3086, and K0186-K2486. For example, a product manufactured on September 24, 1986, bears the code J2486.
If a consumer locates a load center with one of these codes that does not have an "inspected lugs" sticker, they should call Siemens at 1-800-241-3138 to arrange for a free professional inspection. If the wiring diagram label already has an "inspected lugs" stamp, the unit has already been inspected and corrected if necessary.
