What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a choking hazard and risk of laceration/puncture from sharp wires, which are significant injury risks for children, but no injuries have been reported.

Plain-English summary

Country Cozy's, Inc. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning regarding the Country Cozy's Crazy 'Bout You 12-inch teddy bear, model LSB. The recall addresses a safety defect where small parts attached to the bear's left paw can detach, exposing sharp wire points.

The bears feature three wires with balls on the ends, designed to look like balloons on strings. CPSC testing revealed that these balls can detach during use, leaving sharp wire ends exposed. Although intended as decorative giftware, the bears are attractive to small children and likely to be given to them. Approximately 3,000 units were distributed nationwide between January 1985 and January 1986. The affected bears wear a dress trimmed with white lace and feature a hexagonal ceramic tile on the front with the message "Crazy 'Bout You" and five hearts.

Neither the CPSC nor Country Cozy's, Inc. has reported any injuries involving these teddy bears. Consumers who purchased these bears for children should immediately remove and discard the balls and wires to eliminate the hazards. Retailers should do the same for any remaining stock.
