Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has provisionally accepted a consent agreement with Venture Industries, Inc., of Atlanta, Georgia, to stop the sale of carpets that do not meet the standards of the Flammable Fabrics Act. The affected products include 245 yards of domestically produced "Floridian" nylon shag pile carpet and 1,565 imported rugs of the "Grafica" and "57th Street" wool shag pile styles. These items failed to meet the flammability standard DOC FF 3-70.
The "Floridian" carpet is a nylon shag pile with foam backing. The "Grafica" style is a wool shag carpet in specific color combinations, and the "57th Street" style is a wool shag pile carpet in orange, red, plum, black, tobacco, and earth colors. The products were tested in September 1971, when the company was known as Concept Industries, Inc.
Consumers who purchased these carpets should contact Venture Industries, Inc., at 1401 West Paces Ferry Road, N.W., Atlanta, Ga., 30339. Under the consent order, the company agrees to stop marketing non-compliant goods and to notify purchasers to recall the defective items for correction or destruction. More than 1,000 of the imported rugs have already been recovered.
