Baker Scaffolding Casters Recalled Due to Faulty Welds and Fall Hazard
Direct Scaffold Supply is recalling about 23,000 casters for baker scaffolding due to faulty spot welds that can cause equipment failure and falls. One fall injury with bruising has been reported.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in scaffolding equipment (faulty spot welds) that directly caused at least one confirmed injury (a fall with bruising). Although no hospitalizations are documented, the combination of a structural defect affecting equipment stability with confirmed injury evidence places this in the High category.
Plain-English summary
Direct Scaffold Supply LLC is recalling approximately 23,000 five-inch casters used on baker scaffolding products. The casters are designed to allow scaffolding to be moved easily. Specific model numbers affected include CAS5SS4P+BFL, CAS5SS4P+AHD, MPISUS+BFL, MPISUS, MPISUSD+BFL, MPISUST+BFL, MPISU+BFL, MPISU, MPISU+1, MPISUS+AHD, and MPISU+AHD. Consumers with these models should check the heat codes stamped on the metal portion of the caster wheel; heat codes requiring replacement are E22WM483, C23WM320, E23WM320, K23WM320, and D22WM483.
The recalled casters can contain faulty spot welds that cause them to break or fail. When casters fail, the scaffolding becomes unstable and creates a fall hazard. The firm has received two reports of casters breaking or failing, including one report of a fall injury with bruising.
The affected casters were sold nationwide through DSS Branch locations and Lowe's stores, as well as online through Granite.com, Homedepot.com, and Lowes.com between September 2022 and March 2025. Prices ranged from $280 to $1,600 when purchased with baker scaffolding, or approximately $110 for four-packs of casters.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled casters and contact Direct Scaffold Supply for instructions on obtaining free replacement caster wheels. The firm will provide prepaid shipping labels and packaging for returning the recalled casters, and will ship new replacement casters to the consumer's address.
