Bright Builder Fort Kits recalled for button cell battery ingestion hazard
Intellio Toys is recalling Bright Builder fort kits because the included flashlights have button cell batteries in compartments that open easily without tools. Swallowed button cell batteries can cause serious internal injuries, chemical burns, and death.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product where serious injury or death is possible if the hazard occurs (button cell battery ingestion can cause internal chemical burns and death), but no injuries or deaths have been reported. This fits the High severity criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Intellio Toys of Houston, Texas is recalling Bright Builder fort kits with flashlights. The kits, models FKL-BG, FKL-BR, L-5BG, and L-5BR, are 100-piece fort-building sets that include a pack of five flashlights containing button cell batteries. About 12,400 units were sold.
The flashlights violate federal battery-operated toy regulations because the button cell batteries are housed in compartments that can be opened easily without requiring a common household tool. When button cell batteries are swallowed, they can cause serious internal injuries, chemical burns, and death. One report was received of batteries coming loose from a flashlight during handling, but no injuries have been reported to date.
The kits were sold via Amazon.com and Intelliotoys.com from December 2022 through August 2024, priced between $38 and $49 for complete kits and between $14 and $15 for flashlights sold separately.
Consumers should immediately stop using the flashlights, keep them away from children, and contact Intellio Toys for a refund between $10 and $15. The fort kits themselves can continue to be used without the flashlights. Button cell batteries should be disposed of or recycled according to local procedures for hazardous household waste. Amazon and Intellio Toys are contacting all known purchasers directly.
