2024 Arctic Cat Mountain 600 Snowmobiles Recalled Due to Crash Hazard
Textron Specialized Vehicles is recalling about 600 of the 2024 Arctic Cat Mountain 600 Snowmobiles because a pin on the steering knuckle u-joint may not be properly installed, allowing it to come loose and cause loss of steering control.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product recall (loss of steering control on a snowmobile posing a crash hazard) where six incidents have been reported but no injuries have yet been reported. Per the rubric, this falls within the High category as a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Textron Specialized Vehicles is recalling approximately 600 units of 2024 Arctic Cat Mountain 600 Snowmobiles sold nationwide through Arctic Cat dealers between September 2023 and June 2024.
The pin on the u-joint of the steering knuckle may not be swagged correctly, which can allow the pin to come out of the u-joint and cause the rider to lose steering control, posing a crash hazard. The company has received six reports of cross pins that have become loose or fallen out, though no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the snowmobile and contact their local authorized Arctic Cat dealer for a free inspection of the steering column u-joint and free repair if needed. The dealer will inspect the steering post joint. If the pin is properly swagged, no repair is needed. If the pin was not properly swagged, the entire steering post assembly will be replaced.
