Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic Off-Road Vehicles Recalled Due to Crash Hazard

Polaris is recalling Model Year 2023-2024 Ranger XP Kinetic recreational off-road vehicles because pressing the brake and throttle pedals together can deactivate the throttle, creating a crash hazard when the brake is released.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product (recreational vehicle) where a mechanical defect poses a crash hazard and risk of serious injury. Although no injuries have been reported yet, the hazard is real and documented by eight reports of the defect. This meets the High severity criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Polaris Industries Inc. is recalling approximately 2,000 Model Year 2023-2024 Ranger XP Kinetic recreational off-road vehicles (ROVs) sold nationwide through authorized Polaris dealers between April 2023 and September 2023.

The recalled vehicles have a defect where pressing the brake and throttle pedals simultaneously can deactivate the throttle. If the brake is then released, the vehicle can move forward even though the throttle remains deactivated, posing a crash hazard and risk of serious injury.

The firm has received eight reports of loss of throttle response. No injuries have been reported to date.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact Polaris or an authorized Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair, which includes an update to the vehicle control system. Consumers can reach Polaris at 800-765-2747 (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday), visit www.polaris.com/en-us/recalls to check if their vehicle identification number is affected, or email [email protected].
