Sound Around Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, is recalling Hurtle multi-purpose children's helmets sold in black, blue, pink, white, and red. The helmets are marked with the word "Renegade" on the side and are sized to fit head circumferences of about seven to eight inches.

The recalled helmets do not comply with the positional stability requirements of the U.S. CPSC federal safety standard for bicycle helmets. Because of this non-compliance, the helmets can fail to protect in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury.

The helmets were sold online at Amazon, Nordstrom, PyleUSA, and RueLaLa from September 2020 through March 2023 for about $17, and were also distributed as a free product registration promotion through PyleUSA. About 1,800 units are affected. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets. To receive a full refund, consumers should destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps, upload photos of the helmet with the straps cut to the recall registration website, and dispose of the unit. Those who received the helmet as a free promotion should dispose of it so children cannot use it.
