These black-finish fireplaces operate on natural or propane gas and were sold through authorized dealers and professional installers nationwide between May 2016 and February 2020, priced between $5,600 and $6,200.

Improper installation of these fireplaces can lead to problems with heat release and ventilation, posing a fire hazard. The company has received four reports of incorrect fireplace installation, all of which resulted in fires causing property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fireplaces until contacting Ortal or an authorized Ortal dealer to determine if a retrofit plate is needed. A retrofit plate will be installed only if the fireplace is positioned on a wooden base or floor. Ortal will install the retrofit plate and provide an inspection free of charge.
