Approximately 400,000 units were sold in the United States, with an additional 33,000 units in Canada.

The lithium-ion batteries in the umbrella's solar panels can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. The umbrellas were sold at Costco warehouses nationwide and online at www.costco.com from December 2020 through May 2022, priced between $130 and $160. The firm has also received two reports of pendant light fixtures detaching, though no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the umbrellas and remove the solar panel puck from the top. The puck should be stored out of the sun and away from combustible material, and should not be charged with the AC adapter. Consumers can return the umbrellas and solar puck to any Costco Warehouse for a full refund.
