ABUS MountZ Youth Helmets Recalled for Head Injury Risk
ABUS is recalling about 790 MountZ youth helmets that do not meet U.S. safety standards for bicycle helmets. The helmets pose a risk of head injury and should be returned for a full refund.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recalled helmets fail to meet mandatory federal safety standards, creating a risk of head injury. Although no illnesses or injuries have been reported, the hazard is not merely theoretical—noncompliance with a safety standard for protective equipment poses a documented risk of serious harm.
Plain-English summary
ABUS Mobile Security Inc. is recalling the ABUS MountZ youth helmets (model ACM), medium size with approximately 21-inch circumference. The helmets were sold in velvet black and polar white colors from April 2020 through October 2021 at independent bike shops nationwide for about $80. Approximately 790 units are affected.
The recalled helmets do not comply with U.S. CPSC federal safety standards for bicycle helmets, posing a risk of head injury. The helmets were manufactured in March 2020 or October 2020. Affected units have "ABUS" printed on the left side, front and back, and display the model "ACM (MountZ)" along with the manufacturing date on a label inside the helmet.
No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and return them to ABUS's Recall Administrator, Sedgwick, for a full refund at no cost. Consumers can contact Sedgwick toll-free at 877-643-8415 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET), email [email protected], or visit the recall page at https://mobil.abus.com/usa.
