The battery pack is 3.7 V with a gray exterior, measuring 1.25 inches by 1.5 inches, and has the name Caldwell on the exterior. These earmuffs provide hearing protection while shooting firearms and were sold for approximately $100.

The hazard is in the soldering within the lithium-battery pack housing. This defect can allow the wiring to detach and cause the unit to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. No injuries have been reported to date.

About 13,740 units were sold in the United States (in addition, about 88 were sold in Canada) through Midway USA, Bass Pro Shops, Davidsons stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com from April 2021 through May 2021.

Consumers should immediately remove the recalled lithium-battery pack from the earmuffs and contact American Outdoor Brands for disposal instructions in accordance with local laws and to receive free replacement alkaline batteries, including shipping. The earmuffs can also operate with three AAA alkaline batteries.
