Ring LLC is recalling approximately 350,000 Ring Video Doorbells (2nd Generation) in the United States and about 8,700 in Canada. The recall involves model number 5UM5E5 smart doorbell cameras, which feature a blue ring at the front and are available in "satin nickel" or "venetian bronze" colors. These units were sold at electronics and home goods stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and Ring.com from June 2020 through October 2020 for approximately $100.

The recall is due to a fire and burn hazard. The video doorbell's battery can overheat when incorrect screws are used for installation. Ring has received 85 incident reports of incorrect doorbell screws being installed, with 23 of those doorbells igniting and resulting in minor property damage. Additionally, the company has received eight reports of minor burns.

Consumers should immediately stop installing the recalled video doorbells. They can check if their specific unit is part of the recall by entering the serial number at support.ring.com/ring-2nd-gen-recall or through Ring's website or app. Consumers should contact Ring at 800-656-1918 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PT, seven days a week, or visit www.Ring.com to click on Help and then Installation Services to obtain revised installation instructions.
