Active Brands AS is recalling approximately 300 Sweet Protection brand Ripper Jr., Ripper MIPS Jr., and Ripper MIPS bicycle helmets. The recall was initiated because the helmets do not comply with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) federal safety standard for bicycle helmets, which poses a risk of head injury. The helmets were tested and certified according to the European standard EN1078 and were originally intended for the European market.

The affected helmets were sold in matte colors including black, white, blue, gray, green, pink, and purple. "Sweet Protection" is printed on the side of the helmets, and the model name is printed on a label on the rear back side. The manufacturing date is printed inside the helmet, indicating a production year of 2019 and a production month between 9 and 12. The Ripper Jr. and Ripper MIPS Jr. models fit head circumferences from 48 cm to 53 cm, while the Ripper MIPS model fits head circumferences from 53 cm to 61 cm.

These helmets were sold from February 2020 through June 2020 for between $50 and $90. They were available at Evo and Rogers Ski and Sport sporting goods stores in California, Colorado, Montana, New Hampshire, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, as well as online at Expert Voice Pro Purchase. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets. They can return the helmets to the store where they were purchased or contact Active Brands/Sweet Protection for a full refund.
