Hawthorne Hydroponics LLC is recalling the Deluxe and Commercial models of the Grower's Edge Vaporizer. These devices are used in hydroponic growing and were sold nationwide through hydroponic and indoor specialty gardening stores, as well as online, from August 2011 through January 2020. The recalled units include Model No. 704050 (Deluxe) and Model No. 740650 (Commercial). Approximately 60,000 units were sold in the United States, with an additional 340 units sold in Canada.
The recall is due to the risk that the vaporizers can overheat. The vaporized materials can pose a burn risk if spilled or cause a fire if they fall onto a combustible surface. Additionally, the Deluxe model poses an electrical shock hazard if a consumer touches a small copper piece at the base of the vaporizer while it is in use. Hawthorne has received 11 reports of overheating or fire and one report of property damage, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vaporizers. They should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund in the form of store credit.
