Keyera Energy Inc. is recalling approximately 1.7 million gallons of propane (LP) gas because the product does not contain sufficient levels of odorant. The lack of adequate odorant makes it difficult for consumers to detect gas leaks, which presents fire, explosion, and thermal burn hazards. The recalled gas was delivered to storage tanks or sold in portable refillable cylinders for use in recreational vehicles, barbeques, stoves, and other appliances, as well as for commercial and industrial use.

The product was distributed in Texas and Louisiana by various companies and sold by retailers between February 2018 and April 2018. Keyera Energy supplies propane to distributors, which then sell directly to retailers and consumers. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

Consumers should not attempt to test the propane themselves. Those with propane delivered to storage tanks should immediately contact the retailer, supplier, or Keyera Energy to arrange for a free inspection. If the inspection confirms insufficient odorant, Keyera Energy will arrange for additional odorization or replacement of the gas. Consumers should ensure carbon monoxide alarms are in place and, if they smell gas, immediately leave the building and call 911 or their gas supplier without using electrical switches or matches.
