Western Gas Partners LP is recalling approximately 45.7 million gallons of propane (LP) gas. The recall involves gas delivered to consumer storage tanks or sold in portable cylinders for use in recreational vehicles, barbeques, stoves, and other appliances. The propane may not contain sufficient levels of odorant to alert consumers to a gas leak, which presents fire, explosion, and thermal burn hazards.

The affected propane was distributed in Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming from April 2015 through October 2017. Propane tanks that have been inspected for odorant levels or refilled after November 2017 are not affected. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should not attempt to test the propane themselves. Those with storage tanks should contact their supplier or Western Gas to arrange a free inspection. If the propane is under-odorized, Western Gas will arrange for additional odorization or replacement. Consumers with portable cylinders should contact the retailer or the Western Gas hotline to determine if their product is affected and return it for replacement. If a gas leak is detected, consumers should immediately leave the building and call 911 or their gas supplier from a safe location.
