NY Thermal Recalls Residential and Commercial Boilers Due to Carbon Monoxide Hazard

NY Thermal is recalling approximately 16,000 Trinity Tft and Slant/Fin CHS gas boilers because a deteriorating seal may allow carbon monoxide to leak into homes.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (carbon monoxide emission) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

NY Thermal Inc. is recalling approximately 16,000 Trinity Tft and Slant/Fin CHS residential and commercial gas boilers sold in the United States. The recall involves specific models of the Trinity Tft (Tft60 through Tft399) and Slant/Fin CHS (CHS-85 through CHS-399) lines. These units were sold nationwide through NTI professional wholesalers, heating and plumbing contractors, and home appliance wholesalers between October 2011 and January 2018 for prices ranging from $5,000 to $14,000.

The hazard exists because the grommet seal on these boilers can reduce in size over time and dislodge during use. This failure allows the boiler to emit carbon monoxide, posing a poisoning hazard. The company has received three reports of the grommet seal deteriorating or becoming dislodged, resulting in the leakage of condensation and carbon monoxide. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers with recalled boilers should immediately contact their installer or distributor to schedule a free repair. While awaiting repair, consumers who continue to use the boilers should ensure they have a working carbon monoxide alarm installed outside of sleeping areas and on every level of the home.
