Plain-English summary
American Honda Motor Company Inc. is recalling approximately 34,000 Honda portable gasoline generators, specifically models EB2800i and EG2800i. The recall is necessary because the carburetor on these units can leak gasoline, which creates a risk of fire and burns. The affected generators feature a red front cover and a black metal frame; the EB2800i has a silver control panel, while the EG2800i has a black control panel. The "HONDA" brand name and model number are printed on the control panel, and the serial number is located on the lower black metal frame towards the rear of the unit.
The company has received 38 reports of fuel leakage from these generators, but no fires or injuries have been reported to date. The recalled units were sold nationwide at authorized Honda Power Equipment dealers and Home Depot stores from September 2016 through November 2017 for approximately $1,150.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled generators. To resolve the issue, they should contact a local authorized Honda Power Equipment service dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair. Additional information is available by calling American Honda toll-free at 888-888-3139 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by visiting the Honda Power Equipment website and clicking on "Recalls and Updates."
