Plain-English summary
Michaels is recalling approximately 80,000 rock salt lamps sold under the Lumière brand. The affected products include the Rock of Gibraltar Lamp, Carnival of Lights, and Basket of Rocks models. These lamps are pink in color and are mounted on a wooden base or in a black metal basket. They were sold in black cardboard boxes featuring a photo of the lamp on the front and a UPC bar code on the bottom.
The recall is being issued because the dimmer switch and/or outlet plug on these lamps can overheat and ignite. This defect poses a risk of electric shock and fire to consumers. The lamps were sold at Michaels stores from July 2016 through November 2016 for between $15 and $30. The distributor for these products is SporTex US, of New York, and the lamps were manufactured in Pakistan.
No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. Consumers should immediately stop using the lamps and return them to any Michaels store for a full refund. For more information, consumers can contact Michaels at 800-642-4235 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit www.michaels.com and click on "Product Recalls" at the bottom of the page.
