What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the ratchet handle can fail and release a heavy load, but no injuries have been reported, fitting the High severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Alltrade Tools LLC is recalling approximately 129,000 Snap-on ratcheting tie downs sold in packages of four. These 15-foot-long straps are used to secure heavy items or oversize loads to trailers, trucks, and hand trolleys. The recalled units feature a black ratchet mechanism and yellow straps with "Snap-On" printed in red. Product number 871343S is printed on the upper right corner of the packaging, and the units have at least one silver metal tab flush with the openings in the black metal ratchet handle.

The recall is due to a hazard where the ratchet handle can fail during use, releasing the secured load. The firm has received one report of the ratchet handle failing, resulting in the loss of a heavy load from the bed of a pickup truck. No injuries have been reported.

The tie downs were sold exclusively at Sam's Club stores nationwide from May 2015 through September 2015 for about $20.00. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tie downs and return them to Sam's Club for a full refund.
