Plain-English summary
Zak Designs Inc. is recalling approximately 178,000 26-ounce plastic water bottles due to a choking hazard. The inner plastic straw in the flip-top portion of the twist-off cap can break, creating a risk of choking. The bottles are 10 inches tall and feature a flip-top spout with colored inner plastic straws in clear, blue, gray, green, light purple, or red. They display popular characters such as Captain America, Batman, Minions, My Little Pony, Spiderman, Star Wars aircraft, Superman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thor, and Wonder Woman. The mold number "14158" and "Zak Designs®" are embossed on the bottom of the bottles. Bottles with a black inner straw and black twist-off cap are not included in the recall.
The recalled water bottles were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide during a "Back-to-College" promotion from June 2015 through July 2015 for about $10. Zak Designs has received nine reports of the inner plastic straw breaking, including seven reports of plastic fragments being spit out by children using the bottle. No injuries have been reported.
