Walgreens Multivitamin Tablets Recalled for Non-Child-Resistant Packaging
International Vitamin Corporation is recalling 'Well at Walgreens' Multivitamin Women 50+ tablets because the bottles lack required child-resistant closures.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (iron-containing vitamins) where the packaging fails to meet safety standards, but no injuries have been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for theoretical risk without reported illness.
Plain-English summary
International Vitamin Corporation (IVC) is recalling approximately 17,000 bottles of 'Well at Walgreens' Multivitamin Women 50+ tablets. The recall is due to a failure to meet the child-resistant closure requirements of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The white plastic bottles contain 200 multivitamin tablets each and feature a white and silver label with a yellow 'Value Size' band. Affected bottles have UPC 3-11917-17262-0 and one of the following lot numbers: 000001 (EXP 9/2016), 000002 (EXP 12/2016), or 000003 (EXP 11/2016).
The multivitamin tablets contain iron, which can cause serious injury or death to young children if multiple tablets are ingested at once. The packaging is not child-resistant or senior-friendly as required by law. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
The products were sold at Walgreens drug stores nationwide from January 2015 through March 2015 for about $16. Consumers should immediately place recalled bottles out of the reach of children and contact International Vitamin Corp. toll-free at (866) 927-5470 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.ivcinc.com to click on the Safety Recall Notice for a free replacement child-resistant cap.
