Lifesmart Recalls Lifepro Portable Mini Space Heaters Due to Electrical Shock Hazard

Lifesmart is recalling Lifepro brand portable infrared quartz space heaters, models LS-IQH-DMICRO and LS-IQH-MICRO. The recalled heaters are approximately 6 1/2 inches tall, 5 inches wide, and 3 3/4 inches deep, made of black plastic with a three-prong plug built into the back. The LS-IQH-DMICRO model is a 400-watt heater with a digital display, while the LS-IQH-MICRO model is a 450-watt heater with no display. The model name and wattage are printed on a label on the back of each heater below the plug.

The recall is due to a defect where the screws used to attach the back plate to the heater are too short. This allows the back plate to detach when the heater is removed from the electrical outlet, posing an electrical shock hazard to the user. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

About 17,000 units were sold nationwide from January 2014 through December 2014 for between $40 and $50. The heaters were sold at Meijer, Northern Tool, QCI Direct, and Tuesday Morning stores, as well as online at Amazon.com, BJs.com, HomeDepot.com, QCIDirect.com, Samsclub.com, Walmart.com, and Wayfair.com. The heaters were manufactured in China.

Because the firm is no longer in business, a remedy is no longer available. Consumers should destroy and dispose of the recalled product.
