Salsa Cycles, a brand of Quality Bicycle Products Inc., is recalling approximately 2,500 aluminum Salsa Bearpaw bicycle forks. The recall includes forks sold separately and those installed on Mukluk bicycles. The affected forks have date codes 20130524, 20130710, or 20130826 stamped on the steerer tube, followed by "CWI2201BAN2" and a Salsa compass graphic on the bend of the fork blades. The forks were sold in "tequila lime" with black paint, "metallic gold," and red and black colors. The associated Mukluk bicycles were sold in sizes x-small, small, medium, large, and x-large.
The recall is being issued because the bicycle forks can bend or break, which poses a fall hazard to the rider. No injuries have been reported in connection with this defect. The forks were manufactured in Taiwan and sold at bicycle stores nationwide and online from September 2013 through November 2014. The forks were sold separately for about $250, while the Mukluk bicycles were sold for between $1,850 and $4,400.
