Plain-English summary
Salsa Cycles is recalling approximately 1,700 Salsa Vaya and La Cruz bicycle forks manufactured by CWI of Taiwan. The recall involves Vaya forks stamped with batch codes 2011 02 21, 2011 04 11, 2011 06 14, and 2011 09 09, and La Cruz forks stamped with batch codes 2011 03 01, 2011 04 08, 2011 05 30, and 2011 09 09. The batch code is stamped on the steerer tube. These tubular chromoly steel forks were sold individually and as original equipment on Salsa Vaya bicycles and framesets between February 2011 and June 2012.
The recalled forks can bend above the disc brake mount, which poses a fall hazard to the rider. Salsa Cycles has received eight reports of forks bending in this manner, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles equipped with the recalled forks and contact a Salsa dealer for a free inspection, replacement fork, or full refund. Salsa Cycles can be reached toll-free at (877) 774-6208 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or online at www.salsacycles.com.
