Plain-English summary
American Woodcrafters, of High Point, N.C., is recalling about 1,900 Cottage Retreat II bunk beds with a side ladder. The white finish beds were sold in twin over twin and twin over full combinations. The beds were made in Indonesia and have SKU number 6310-9771 printed on a label attached to the inside of one of the four rails.
The recall is due to a hazard where the bed's side mattress support rails can break, causing a fall risk. American Woodcrafters has received two reports of bed support rails breaking, in which children fell from the bed and sustained bruising.
The beds were sold exclusively at Havertys stores nationwide and online at havertys.com from September 2011 through March 2014 for between $600 and $1,000. Consumers should immediately stop using the beds and contact Havertys to arrange for the free installation of replacement rails. American Woodcrafters and Havertys are also contacting their customers directly.
