Plain-English summary
Paramount Leisure Industries is recalling approximately 960 Paramount Trident Series 2 (UV II) ultraviolet sanitation systems for pools. The recall was issued because electrical arcing can cause the units to catch fire, posing a fire hazard. No injuries have been reported.
The affected units are gray tubes that stand 32 inches high by 11 inches in diameter. They are plumbed into the pool's water circulation pipes and plugged in or hard-wired into an electrical system. The units feature a black label on the front reading "Trident UV II" or "Series 2 Trident Ultraviolet Corporation UV Sanitation System." Additionally, a silver sticker on the units displays wording such as "Paramount Series 2 Ultraviolet Pool Sanitizer System" and a date code of 9/9/2013 or later. Some date codes consist of a series of letters; consumers with these codes should visit www.1paramount.com to determine if their unit is included in the recall.
The units were sold through pool companies from September 2013 through January 2014 for between $600 and $750. Consumers should immediately unplug the units from the outlet, or if hard-wired, disconnect the power source or turn it off at the circuit breaker.
