BRP Mexico S.A. de C.V. is recalling about 3,400 Can-Am Commander side-by-side off-road vehicles. The recall covers 2011 and 2012 model years, including the Commander 800, 1000, XT 800R, XT 800, X 1000, and Limited 1000 models. These vehicles were sold at Can-Am dealers nationwide from April 2011 through December 2012 for between $11,700 and $21,000.
The recall is due to the improper assembly of the steering column to the rack and pinion. This defect can result in the loss of steering control, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the user, passengers, or bystanders. The firm has received three reports of loss of steering, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact a BRP dealer to schedule a free repair. BRP has notified registered consumers directly.
