Canon Recalls WFT-E7A Wireless File Transmitter for Allergic Reaction Risk

Canon U.S.A. Inc. is recalling approximately 500 WFT-E7A wireless file transmitters. These devices allow photographers to transfer image data securely without cables. The recalled units are black, measure 5.3 inches wide by 1.2 inches tall by 2.4 inches deep, and weigh 5.8 ounces. They feature a Canon logo, the words "Wireless File Transmitter," and a rubberized cover on the top. The serial numbers of affected units are located on a gray metallic plate on the bottom of the unit; the first two digits are "03" through "06" and the fifth digit is "1."
The recall is due to a risk of allergic reaction. A chemical used in the rubber part on the top cover can result in a reaction that changes the rubber from black to white and poses a risk of skin irritation to the consumer. There are no reported cases of injury associated with this recall.
The transmitters were sold at B&H Photo, Best Buy, camera and mass merchandise stores nationwide, and online retailers including Amazon.com from May 2012 through October 2012 for about $850. Consumers should immediately stop using the transmitter and contact Canon U.S.A. for a free repair.
