Plain-English summary
Build-A-Bear Workshop is recalling its "Love.Hugs.Peace" lapel pins because the surface paints contain excessive levels of lead, which is prohibited under federal law. The 1.5-inch pins feature graphics of a heart, bear head, and peace sign in front of a globe, with the words "Love.Hugs.Peace." at the bottom.
Approximately 26,500 pins were sold in the United States and 2,200 in Canada. The pins were sold at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores nationwide and online from July 2009 through October 2010 for $3.50 in the US and $4 (CDN) in Canada. The pins were manufactured in China.
No injuries have been reported. Consumers should stop using the lapel pins and return them to any Build-A-Bear Workshop store to receive a $5 store coupon. If returning the pin to a store is not possible, consumers can contact the company for alternate instructions on receiving a refund.
