Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fire hazard with reported property damage (melted siding) but no reported injuries, fitting the High severity criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Sunjoy Industries Group Limited is recalling approximately 20,000 freestanding steel outdoor fireplaces in the United States and 400 in Canada. These "Garden Treasures Living" fireplaces, featuring a bronze finish chimney and slate-colored accents, were sold exclusively at Lowe's retail stores nationwide from March 2010 through November 2010 for about $300. The affected units are identified by item number 0027705 and model number L-OF082PST-3, which are printed on the front page of the product's instruction manual.
The recall is due to a fire hazard: the decorative bronze powder coat finish on the fireplace chimney can ignite during use. Sunjoy has received 14 reports of the chimney's decorative powder coat finish catching fire, resulting in one report of melted siding. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the fireplace and contact Sunjoy to obtain a free replacement chimney and chimney cap. For additional information, consumers can contact Sunjoy toll-free at (877) 343-5651 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or visit the firm's website at www.sunjoydirect.com/fireplacerecall.htm.
