Plain-English summary
Delta Enterprise is recalling approximately 747,000 drop-side cribs and all fixed and drop-side cribs using wooden stabilizer bars. The recall addresses two primary hazards: drop sides that can malfunction, detach, or fail, creating spaces where infants or toddlers can become wedged, leading to strangulation or suffocation, or fall out of the crib. Additionally, wooden stabilizer bars on some cribs can be installed upside down, causing the mattress platform to collapse and creating gaps for entrapment.
CPSC and Delta have received 57 reports of drop-side malfunctions or detachments, resulting in three entrapments, two reports of bruises, and one child falling out of the crib. There are also 19 reports of stabilizer bars installed upside down, leading to 10 mattress platform collapses, two entrapments (freed without injury), and one child sustaining scratches.
Affected cribs were sold at children's product retail stores nationwide and online from January 2000 through May 2009 for between $100 and $300. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled drop-side cribs and contact Delta to receive a free repair kit that immobilizes the drop side. For cribs with wooden stabilizer bars, consumers should inspect the bars to ensure they are correctly installed and check for joint damage. If bars are installed upside down, stop using the crib and contact Delta for instructions.
