Plain-English summary

Pelican International is recalling approximately 250 utility sled tow hitches used with the Pelican Snow Trek Utility sled. The recall was issued because the screws in the hitch can become loose and fall off due to vibrations when items are being towed. This allows the sled and hitch to detach from the towing vehicle, posing an injury hazard to the user and bystanders.

The recalled hitches were sold nationwide from January 2007 through December 2009 by Paricon Inc., V.G. Grace, and other regional distributors and sports retailers. The hitches were sold for about $50 if sold alone, and between $130 and $250 if sold with the sled. The firm has received 10 reports of the screw coming loose, but no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the sled tow hitch and contact Pelican International to receive a free replacement kit and installation instructions. For additional information, consumers can contact Pelican International toll-free at (888) 669-6960 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or visit the firm's website at www.pelicansport.com.
