What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fire hazard with reports of overheating and smoking, but no injuries have been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

GE Infrastructure Sensing Inc. is recalling approximately 9,400 units of GE Telaire Airestat and Carrier Single Beam Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Temperature Sensors. The recall involves specific model numbers including T8010, T8010-C, T8011, T5010, and 33ZCT55CO2. These wall-mounted sensors were sold for commercial use between November 2000 and March 2005 for between $150 and $200. The sensors may have a Telaire, Carrier, or no logo on the front, and the model number is not visible on the exterior, requiring internal inspection to verify if a unit is affected.

The sensors are being recalled because a cracked capacitor can cause the product to overheat and smoke, posing a fire hazard. GE has received three reports of this overheating and smoking issue, but no injuries have been reported.

Building owners should immediately contact GE Infrastructure Sensing for instructions on how to determine if their sensor is included in the recall and if it can be used while awaiting a replacement. Only authorized maintenance personnel should follow these inspection instructions. Building owners with recalled sensors will receive a free replacement sensor.
