The affected models are GSD5500G, GSD5560G, GSD5800G, GSD5900G, GSD5960G, EDW3000G, and EDW3060G. To determine if a specific unit is affected, consumers must check the serial number located inside the door wall; the recall includes units with serial numbers starting with letters A through T followed by G, or the letters VF. The dishwashers were sold at appliance retail outlets and builder distributors for between $300 and $400.

The recall is being issued because a connector in these dishwashers can short-circuit and overheat during normal use, which poses a fire hazard. GE has received 29 reports of connectors overheating, including one report of a fire that spread outside the dishwasher and caused minor property damage. No injuries have been reported in connection with this defect.
